Volodymyr
Ukraine
One of the oldest cities in Ukraine and the historic capital of Volhynia, Volodymyr in the country's northwest has a compact centre with a concentration of historic churches and a walkable café and restaurant scene. The town served as capital of the Principality of Volhynia and later of the Kingdom of Galicia–Volhynia, and its medieval Latin name, Lodomeria, became the namesake of a 19th-century Austro-Hungarian kingdom. A short drive south lies Zymne, home to the oldest Orthodox monastery in Volhynia.
