Coal-mining city in western Ukraine, Sheptytskyi sits on the Western Bug River in the north of Lviv Oblast, with a compact centre holding historic churches, cafés, and restaurants. Known historically as Krystynopol and later as Chervonohrad, it serves as the administrative hub for the surrounding region and the centre of the Lviv-Volyn coal basin. UNESCO World Heritage sites lie within the wider region.
