A lakeside town in Chile's Araucanía Region, Villarrica sits on the western shore of the lake that shares its name, with a walkable waterfront avenue offering views across the water toward the nearby volcano. Founded in 1552 and twice refounded — most recently in 1882 — the town serves as the main tourism hub for the region, with a food-and-drink scene in the centre and easy access to hot springs, waterfalls, rafting rivers, and Villarrica National Park.
