Vélez-Blanco
Almería · Spain
The Cave of the Signboards (Cueva de los Letreros), declared a National Historic Monument in 1924 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998, sits just outside this small Almería village in the highlands of northern Andalusia. The cave holds the Indalo, a late Neolithic or Copper Age painting of a human figure that has become the symbol of Almería province. The village itself has a 16th-century castle built by the Fajardo family, the church of Santiago, and the Convent of San Luis.
