Lorca's Holy Week processions, declared a festival of international tourist interest, are the headline draw of this city in south-eastern Spain's Murcia region. The old town and castle precinct were designated a historic-artistic ensemble in 1964 — the first in the region to receive that distinction — and the city's dense concentration of heraldic architecture has earned it the nickname "city of a hundred shields." Lorca Castle and a Collegiate church dedicated to St. Patrick anchor the walkable centre, which has a real café and restaurant scene.
