Varmahlid
Iceland
A tiny hamlet in Skagafjörður, northern Iceland, Varmahlíð sits in a geothermally active area — the settlement's name translates as "warm slope" — and has grown around that heat, with a swimming pool, greenhouses, and a hot-water supply serving the surrounding district. The Miðgarður concert hall is home to Karlakórinn Heimir, one of Iceland's most celebrated men's choirs. A tourist information centre and natural history museum serve visitors to the wider Skagafjörður region.
