A compact town on the Tysa River in western Ukraine's Zakarpattia region, Tyachiv has a compact central core with cafés and restaurants and sits close to the Carpathian mountains. First documented in the 14th century, it received royal privileges from Hungarian king Charles Robert in 1329 alongside several neighbouring towns. The wider region holds UNESCO World Heritage sites.
