Treorchy, a little town in the Rhondda Fawr valley in south Wales, is known for the Treorchy Male Choir, one of Wales's most celebrated choral ensembles. The town developed as a coal-mining settlement, and the collieries that once filled the valley closed in the 1980s following the miners' strike. It sits in mountain terrain within the county borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf, with a number of historic churches for its size.
