Sundsvall
Sweden
Sundsvall's stone city centre — known as "Stenstaden" — gives this Swedish coastal town a distinctive architectural character, built after a fire swept through the earlier wooden city. Set in hilly terrain on the Gulf of Bothnia, the town pairs a walkable centre with a food-and-drink scene and scenic viewpoints in the surrounding hills. It is the only city in the historic Medelpad province and home to a campus of Mid Sweden University.
