Sitting on the western bank of the Indus River in Sindh, Sukkur is a large Pakistani city with a walkable centre and a riverfront setting that defines its character. The city and the nearby island of Bukkur together form what is known as the "Gate of Sindh." Founded originally by the Rai dynasty, the modern city took shape in the 1840s during the British era, across the river from the historic city of Rohri.
