Spankeren
Netherlands
A pocket-sized Dutch village in Gelderland's Rheden municipality, Spankeren sits along the Apeldoorns Kanaal opposite Dieren and holds two features of note for its size: the 12th-century leaning tufa tower of the Petruskerk, among the oldest church towers in the Veluwe region, and Kasteel de Gelderse Toren. A commemorative stone in the church wall records that its foundation stone was laid in 1803 by Alexander Rhemen, who once owned the castle as well.
