Well-equipped winter sports town in Styria's Enns valley, Schladming has twice hosted the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships — in 1982 and 2013 — and also held the Special Olympics Winter Games in 1993 and 2017. The centre has a good concentration of cafés, restaurants, and tourist-facing shops for a town its size, with views toward the Dachstein mountains. A former silver-mining settlement, it sits in the wider Styrian Alps region, which has several UNESCO World Heritage sites nearby.
