This spa town at the confluence of the three source streams of the Traun River, Bad Aussee sits at the heart of the Styrian Salzkammergut in the Austrian Alps, ringed by lakes and mountain scenery. A stone monument in the town centre marks its claimed position as the geographical midpoint of Austria. The wider region holds UNESCO World Heritage sites, and the heritage-dense streetscape, mountain terrain, and waterside setting give the town a strong visual character.
