A modest town on the east coast of the Gulf of Riga, Saulkrasti stretches along the shoreline across a string of historic fishing settlements that were merged into a single municipality in 1933. A short train ride from Riga, it hosts the annual Saulkrasti Jazz Festival and has a tiny central core with cafés and restaurants.
