This parish on the northwestern edge of Funchal extends from the city into the mountainous interior of Madeira, reaching as far as Pico do Areeiro, one of the island's highest peaks. The centre carries a dense food-and-drink scene and a concentration of historic churches, while the surrounding terrain offers multiple scenic viewpoints across the island. A UNESCO World Heritage site lies within the wider region.
