Small wine-growing hamlet on Madeira's north coast, Arco de São Jorge sits between the Atlantic Ocean and the mountains to the south. Agriculture and viticulture are the main activities here, giving the area a working rural character. The regional road through the parish connects the municipalities of Santana and São Vicente, making it a natural stop along the northern coastal route.
