A small town in Córdoba province's Punilla Department, Santa María de Punilla sits on the banks of the Cosquín River with the Sierras visible in the distance. Served by the Tren de las Sierras passenger railway on the General Belgrano line, it lies a short drive northwest of the city of Córdoba. The area was originally home to the indigenous Comechingón community known as Toaén.
