Rio Claro
Rio Claro · Brazil
A São Paulo state city with a concentration of historic churches in its centre, Rio Claro has a walkable core and a layered immigrant heritage — German, Swiss, Italian, Spanish, Arab, and Japanese communities all settled here from the 19th century onward, alongside a substantial Afro-Brazilian population. Originally incorporated in 1827 as São João Batista do Ribeirão Claro, it also played a significant role in the railway network of São Paulo state.
