Penydarren
TLL51 · United Kingdom
Penydarren, a tiny community north of Merthyr Tydfil centre in Wales, holds a firm place in industrial history as the starting point of Richard Trevithick's 1804 steam locomotive trial — the first journey of a steam-powered vehicle on rails. The site of the former Penydarren Ironworks, once the third-largest of Merthyr's four great ironworks, also contains the remains of a Roman fort, now within a local leisure park.
