Pakokku sits on the western bank of the Irrawaddy River in central Myanmar's Magway Region, a short distance from the ancient temple city of Bagan. The longest bridge in Myanmar — the Pakokku Bridge, part of the India–Myanmar–Thailand Trilateral Highway — crosses the river here, and the city serves as the largest rice market in Upper Myanmar. Several pagodas, including Thiho Shin, Shwe Ku, and Shwe Mothtaw, are spread across the city.
