Nea Moni of Chios

Founded in 1042 and inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1990, Nea Moni is an 11th-century Greek Orthodox monastery complex in the mountain interior of Chios, now functioning as a convent and history museum. It is renowned for its Byzantine mosaics, which rank among the finest surviving examples of Macedonian Renaissance art in Greece, comparable to those at Daphni and Hosios Loukas.
