Chios
Χίος · Greece
The port capital of the Greek island of Chios sits on the eastern coast facing the Turkish shore, with a walkable centre dense with cafés, restaurants, and historic churches running down to the waterfront. A medieval castle — locally called Kastro — stands on the northern side of the harbour, and ancient excavations have revealed a city already flourishing in the time of Herodotus, with a theatre and a harbour large enough for dozens of ships.
