Mae Sai
Thailand
Thailand's northernmost town, Mae Sai sits at the country's far northern tip where Phahonyothin Road crosses the Mae Sai River into Myanmar's Tachileik — making it a major border crossing and a base for day trips across the frontier. The hillside temple Wat Pha That Doi Wao, with its large scorpion sculpture facing Myanmar, offers a viewpoint over the border area. A street market runs through the centre, and the town has a walkable café and restaurant scene.
