A densely packed commercial hub in Yilan County, Taiwan, Luodong offers a strong café and restaurant scene for its size, along with an unusual concentration of churches. Once a prosperous timber town built on the logging of Taiping Mountain forests, it retains traces of that era at Zhongshan Park, where a steam locomotive from the forestry railway and a bronze statue of the township's first chief are on display. The mountains remain close, and the town sits within walking distance of water.
