Los Chiles
Costa Rica
This small town on Costa Rica's northern border with Nicaragua, Los Chiles is the gateway to Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge, the fourth-largest wetland in the country. Boat trips, birdwatching, artisanal fishing, guided day and night trails, and farm visits make up a growing rural and adventure tourism offer. The surrounding canton runs on agriculture — grains, vegetables, and cattle — and the Las Tablillas border crossing has added a regional transit role since 2012.
