Lintong District, on the eastern edge of Xi'an in Shaanxi Province, is where the Terracotta Army and the Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor were discovered in 1974, with artifacts viewable at the Emperor Qinshihuang's Mausoleum Site Museum. The Huaqing Pool hot springs are also here. The district takes its name from two rivers — the Lin to the east and the Tong to the west — and hosts the Chinese Academy of Sciences' National Time Service Center, established in 1966, which sets the official time standard for mainland China.
