A compact town in the Tarn department of southern France's Occitanie region, Lavaur sits on the Agout river and has a central core with cafés and restaurants. Historically part of the Lauragais — once called the "Pays de Cocagne" for its woad cultivation and agricultural abundance — it lies within reach of several UNESCO World Heritage sites in the wider region.
