Sitting on the edge of Lake Shkodra in northwestern Albania, near the Montenegro border, Koplik is a small town and gateway for hikers heading into the Malësi e Madhe highlands — the "Great Highlands" documented by early anthropologist Edith Durham in her book High Albania and noted by Lord Byron, among others. The town has been designated an international free economic trade zone since 2016 and sits in wine-growing country with mountains close by.
