Jawor

Poland

One of Lower Silesia's oldest towns, Jawor earned its place on the UNESCO World Heritage List through the Church of Peace, a remarkable timber-framed Baroque structure built in the 17th century. The town traces its urban layout to a charter granted in 1242 and served as the capital of a Piast dynasty principality from 1274 to 1392. A compact centre with cafés and restaurants sits alongside Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque architecture, with the Nysa Szalona river running through town and the mountains visible on the horizon.
