At the northern end of Lake Tuusula, a short distance from Helsinki, Järvenpää is a Finnish town whose lakeside setting drew a cluster of prominent artists, writers, and musicians in the early 20th century, making the area a landscape symbol of national romanticism. Jean Sibelius lived here, and his home Ainola is among several house museums open to visitors, alongside an art museum holding works by Venny Soldan-Brofeldt and Eero Järnefeldt. The town centre has a walkable café and restaurant scene.
