Hongcun
Anhui Province · China
A UNESCO World Heritage village in southern Anhui Province, Hongcun preserves the architecture and canal-laced layout of a rural feudal Chinese settlement with unusual completeness. Its ox-shaped plan is threaded by water canals feeding a central half-moon pond, and its whitewashed Ming and Qing dynasty buildings — many with ornate carved beams — line narrow cobblestone lanes. Several scenes from *Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon* were filmed here. The village sits near the southwest slope of Mount Huangshan.
