Hohenems
Austria
Home to the Schubertiade, a music festival dedicated to Franz Schubert that has made this Vorarlberg town internationally known, Hohenems also holds a 16th-century Renaissance palace where two of the three most significant manuscripts of the Nibelungenlied were discovered in the 18th century. A Jewish history museum traces the community that lived here from the 17th to the 19th century. The walkable old town centre sits in the Rhine valley, with mountain country close by.
