Hénin-Beaumont
Pas-de-Calais · France
Three UNESCO World Heritage sites from the Nord-Pas-de-Calais mining basin sit within Hénin-Beaumont itself, a town in Pas-de-Calais formed by the 1971 merger of Hénin-Liétard and Beaumont-en-Artois. Former collieries, slag heaps, and rows of miners' housing preserve the industrial past across the commune, which was decorated with the Croix de Guerre for damage sustained during the First World War. The compact centre has cafés and restaurants within walking distance of water.
