Hamina

Finland

Hamina's town centre follows a rare circular street plan dating from the 1720s — a layout shared by only a handful of cities worldwide, with Palmanova in Italy among the best-known comparisons. Founded in 1653, it is the oldest town in the Kymenlaakso region, sitting on the Gulf of Finland coast in the country's southeast. The compact circular centre holds cafés and restaurants within easy walking distance, and the Port of Hamina-Kotka, one of Finland's largest general harbours, lies nearby.
