Gyoda, a city in northern Saitama Prefecture, is known across Japan as a historic centre of tabi sock production — a tradition recognised under Japan's Heritage designation as "the town of tabi storehouses that has long supported the foundation of Japanese dress culture." The city is also home to the Sakitama burial mound cluster, a nationally designated special historic site considered the birthplace of Saitama Prefecture, with a park open to visitors.
