A Saxon town on the Mulde river southeast of Leipzig, Grimma has a walkable historic centre with a concentration of Gothic and Renaissance buildings and a café scene along the riverfront. First documented in 1200, it sits in the Muldental valley and serves as a base for outdoor exploration of the surrounding countryside. The wider municipality takes in 64 districts, many with old religious buildings worth seeking out.
