Bavarian town on the river Lech, Friedberg sits directly beside Augsburg with a walkable centre of cafés and restaurants and views across the wide glacial river valley. Founded in the 13th century to collect tolls from travellers crossing the Lech, it occupies a ridge along the Lechleite hills. Several UNESCO World Heritage sites lie within reach in the wider region.
