Home to the world's oldest continuously operating brewery at Weihenstephan, Freising is a Bavarian university town on the Isar river, a short distance north of Munich. The town served as the historical centre of the Catholic Church in Bavaria and retains a walkable centre with a concentration of historic churches. Weihenstephan also hosts the Technical University of Munich's brewing faculty, the only university in the world offering a full degree programme in brewing, drawing master brewers from major breweries globally.
