Faverges

France

This compact town in Haute-Savoie sitting at the upper end of the glacial valley that gives rise to Lake Annecy, with mountain scenery on all sides and the Bauges regional nature park nearby. Roman in origin, Faverges developed along a road linking Turin to Geneva, later acquiring a 13th-century castle and a tradition of mineral extraction that shaped its name. An archaeological museum preserves finds from its long history, and several buildings carry listed heritage status.
