Cholula
San Pedro Cholula · Mexico
Cholula's Great Pyramid — the largest pyramid by volume in the world, with the colonial Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de los Remedios built on its summit — anchors one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the Americas, and the oldest still-inhabited city in the Western Hemisphere. The city's eighteen historic barrios each maintain their own patron saint, feeding an almost year-round calendar of festivals, and the dense concentration of churches makes it a strong destination for both history and photography. A lively café and restaurant scene adds to the draw.
