This coastal town north of Lima, Chancay sits where the Pacific meets the foothills of the Andes and gives its name to a pre-Columbian culture that later became part of the Inca Empire. The town gained new international attention in November 2024 when a Chinese-built deep-water mega-port opened here as part of the Belt and Road Initiative, accelerating the shipment of Peruvian resources to China.
