Bredevoort
Netherlands
A self-declared book town in the Achterhoek region of the Netherlands, Bredevoort has filled its pocket-sized historic centre with more than twenty second-hand and antiquarian bookshops, modelling itself on Hay-on-Wye in Wales and Redu in Belgium. The village, which held the status of a fortified town and independent municipality until 1818, also has a modest café and restaurant scene that outpaces the town's size.
