A little town in Molise's Campobasso province with a café and restaurant scene that punches above its size, and an unusual concentration of historic churches. Bojano has deep roots: an important Samnite city and capital of the Pentri territory, it was conquered by Rome in the third century BC, later became a Roman municipality, and by the sixth century held a Christian diocese. It passed through Lombard, Norman, and noble hands before a major earthquake in 1805 brought lasting decline. Vineyards and scenic viewpoints lie in the surrounding countryside.
