Birthplace of guitarist Rory Gallagher, Ballyshannon is a modest town in southern County Donegal where the River Erne meets its estuary, with a town charter dating to 1613. It sits close to the mountains and has a reasonable spread of cafés, restaurants, and historic churches for its size. The beach resort of Bundoran lies a short drive west, and the pottery town of Belleek is just across the border in County Fermanagh to the east.
