A highland trading town in southern Shan State, Aungban sits at elevation in the hills of Kalaw Township and serves as a major agricultural junction for Myanmar. Produce including potato, garlic, ginger, cabbage, and tea leaves flows in from surrounding villages to two busy markets — an upper market serving townspeople and visitors, and a lower market where farmers and freight trucks trade in bulk — before being distributed to Yangon, Mandalay, and beyond.
