Ariano Irpino

Avellino · Italy

Chosen by the Norman king Roger II as the site of his celebrated Assizes, Ariano Irpino is a hilltop town in Campania's Avellino province known for its maiolica tradition and its position straddling the Apennines between the Adriatic and Tyrrhenian coasts. Known locally as the City of the Three Knolls, it retains historic buildings and ancient sights despite wars and earthquakes, and sits at the edge of the regional hinterland where Campania meets Apulia.
