A little beach town on Madagascar's southwest coast, Anakao sits on the Mahafaly shoreline south of the Onilahy river mouth, facing the island of Nosy Ve. Inhabited by the Vezo people, the town occupies flat, dune-edged terrain a short distance south of Toliara, with traditional tombs near the headland.
