Alcalá de Guadaíra

Once known as Alcalá de los Panaderos — the baker's town that supplied most of Seville's bread — this city on the Guadaíra River sits just southeast of Seville, with a walkable centre of cafés and restaurants and a strong photographic draw along the riverbanks. Moorish-era watermills still stand along the water, and the area's natural heritage is anchored by the Riberas del Guadaíra natural monument, which takes in the Oromana park and pine forest. An Almohad castle, later rebuilt under Christian rule, overlooks the town.
