Aiginio
Πιερία · Greece
This tiny town on the Thermaic Gulf in Greece's Pieria region, Aiginio sits where the Aliakmon river meets the coast, with Mount Olympus and the Pierian Mountains visible to the south and southwest. The central core has cafés and restaurants, and the town is known locally as a gathering place for storks, which nest in the area each year. It serves as the seat of the Pydna-Kolindros municipality and carries a mixed heritage from local residents and refugees who arrived from Eastern Thrace and Eastern Rumelia in the 1920s.
