Litochoro
Πιερία · Greece
The main gateway to climbing Mount Olympus, Litochoro sits at the base of Greece's highest mountain on the western shore of the Thermaic Gulf, with nearly all ascent routes starting just outside town. First recorded in the 16th century, when Saint Dionysius visited the area and founded a monastery that still stands to the northwest, the compact Macedonian town has a café and restaurant scene that exceeds its size, a number of historic churches, and views toward both mountain and sea.
